Death and dying and all that crap

Just in case you've missed this story in the news - it's about this dog called Leao that survived the Brazil floods but his owner didn't and the dog just sits and sits by his owner's grave for days on end.

This story really broke my heart because it makes me think of Bozo (who in fact looks a bit like Leao) and how terribly sad I would be if were to die and I had to see him sit so sadly on my grave like this day after day. So I've decided it would be better if I die only after he dies, so he won't have to go through something like this.

If I'm going to be really selfish, I think I would like to die before anyone I love dies so I won't have to go through the pain of losing them. But when I think of people to whom my being gone would be painful, like my mom, I feel so bad for them I think I'd rather she die before I do so at least she can die with me by her side.

But the best thing would be to all die together. Yep. Easiest for everyone involved. Or just live forever and ever and ever. Nothing would beat that. But life is life, a death-stricken one at that and it sucks in a major, major way because no matter what, some people go first and some people are left behind to mourn them forever, to plants flowers on their graves or something like that. And it's just a generally sad story any way you look at it.

Hey Jerusha, I'm glad you've talked about this, because it's something that has been occupying my mind more and more frequently, and I was at the point where I feared I was becoming morbid/paranoid/crazy. It's comforting to know others are thinking of the same things.

It's a silly question, but I've often found myself asking why death has to happen. I can't imagine what would be less painful - leaving loved ones behind or having your loved ones leave you. It's a cruel, cruel, world, indeed!

Now this is becoming really weird. Have you seen my latest post? Something to do with death and being gone etc. And here you are, talking about the same thing, and here is DDB, having the same morbid thoughts. Is there some kind of mood virus going around and we are the hapless victims?

I really like your idea of dying earlier than our loved ones so we don't go through the heartbreak and the suffering, but it's not for us to decide when to die. All we can do is wait. I guess.

Daydream - I knoww I sometimes think it's pretty cruel of God to give us life only to die. And that it has to be so painful (either emotionally or physically or both). Death is definitely the worst part of life :)

Aduh - saw your post and yeah, this is a little creepy that everyone seems to be thinking about death so much. The waiting, the waiting...it's so disturbing!

I hate sob stories involving animals mostly because they are so heart-wrenching. I haven't watched a touching animal story since Free Willie. But I do love the comic ones, recently watched "Revenge of Kitty Galore"!
And dying together? That's craazzy! I mean, it's only when we lose people we love so much that we value the ones we have left much more. Afterall, we are the most emotional specie of all mortal beings, so it is definitely hard to accept death as a part of life.
And I'm heading over to Aduhi's blog to see what all the fuss is about! :P

When I watched The Notebook and the couple died together in their sleep, I thought there could be no better ending than that, realistic or not. Then I read the novel and found out that they actually didnt, bleh!
Once read a story about some bird that just gave up flapping its little wings mid-flight when its mate was shot down by hunters. And that klipspringers never stray more than 5 feet from their mates and when one dies, the other gives itself up to a slow death too.
To watch a loved one's face as I die, or to hold a dying lover- neither choice appeal :D

PS. your new template is great, but it doesn't show the dates on the comments, only the time. Maybe you should do some tweaking?

Blakest - haha @ Free Willy. My sister saw that like 20 times :) Crazy why? I think craazy only for the left behind, not for the ones that pass away.

Ku - hah at least finally someone after my own heart. I always thought those two died together, and like you always considered lucky to be able to go together like that, and so peacefully too.

Aduh - hadn't paid any attention to those details at all. Thanks for pointing it out. Lemme see what I can do..

This sums up my thoughts exactly... (and probably, to some degree, everyone else's too)

Emma seems like all the ladies agree but the men feel a little differently. And thanks for dropping in!

The greatest adventure we will ever take in life is death. Indeed it is sad to think of our loved ones dieing or living a life without them. The fact remands, however, that death is an essential part of life. It is the great end and the great beginning.

That being said, I don't think anyone should rush getting to the grand adventure. For as grand as it is, it is still the last.

Ronnie - You're right about death being an adventure, for the one who's dying. It's just sad for the ones who are left behind to forever miss the ones they've lost. Why can't we take the adventure together is my eternal question.

Remember that "Life" has no opposite.

Death is the opposite to birth, but life goes on forever. Might not be in the "form" that we expect, but still.. :) Don't worry so much.

Mats - yeah I guess. I just really love this 'form' that's all :)
